Mr. Vikas Kumar graduated in Electrical Engineering from the University of Roorkee (now IIT) and did Masters in Opto-Electronics & Optical Communications from IIT-Delhi. Projects undertaken were ECG Analyser at IIT Roorkee & transmission of video signal through optical fiber and video analytics at IIT Delhi.

He belongs to the 1988 batch of the Indian Railway Traffic Service. He has more than 32 years experience of in all phases of Rail based Urban Transportation Projects including more than 18 years of experience with Delhi Metro Rail Corp. Ltd. (i.e. from 2004), the largest MRTS system in India having 286 metro stations (390 KMS network).

He has done extensive learning courses on Transportation and Sustainable Development organized by National & International organizations like IUT, World Bank, UIC France, KOTI Korea, etc.

He has been instrumental in organizing/accomplishing various unique tasks including that of Mela Officer during Maha-Kumbh held in Jan-Feb-2001 at Allahabad and organizing relief to the passengers of Karnataka Express which derailed in 1998.

He has been involved in the overall planning of various metro rail projects in India / Abroad, preparation of tender documents, and training of Officers & Staff. He was also instrumental in 1 st Driverless Train Operations which commenced on the Magenta Line of the DMRC network in Dec-2020.

He is Vice President of I-Metro (Society of Indian Metro Rail Organizations), a platform for Member Metros to share their learning & experiences.

He is a Policy Board Member of UITP also.

Being Managing Director of DMRC Ltd., Mr. Vikas Kumar is looking after all aspects of the working of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation including Project & Planning including running of metro train services & maintenance of infrastructure, Business Development including Fare & Non-Fare Box Revenue, Consultancy Assignments in India/Abroad.
